Essential agreement for the workshop:

Find your Tandem biking partner, sit with another tandem group to make a group of 4.


  • Based on who you are and the kind of learner you want to be
  • In table groups, choose two attributes of the Learner Profile and write a sentence defining how you want to be over the next three days
  • Post up on the essential agreement board


At the heart of the curriculum cycle is the learner constructing meaning

Introduce the wonderwall - put the student at the heart (Questionnaires)

To Construct meaning students need a structure to work within.
The PYP offers the structure via the Essential Elements of:
Transdisciplinary themes - subject knowledge
Concepts - Understanding
Approaches to learning - skills
Attitudes - Dispositions/competencies
Action

  4. Reflection day 1:
    My main connection and understanding that has been made in my mind today is just how important it is to have the student input and student voice integrated into my lessons. If students are not engaged and not learning about contexts that are not important to them why would they want to learn, why would they be engaged? "What is important to us?".

    I would like to know some more ideas from some of the other teachers about how to get the student voice (Learner centered) integrated into my teaching practice. One person mentioned today allowing the students to have some input into selecting guided reading texts which I thought was a great idea!

  5. One of my challenges as a person still new to the PYP is remembering all the elements of the programme and how these all fit together. Today we developed a graphic to support ongoing access to and recall of the 5 elements. We intend to continue to develop the graphic as a tool. Thanks Alison for the prompt.
