  1. Today has been a fantastic day. We completed a reading which we shared with our group and went on a fascinating tour of Kristen School.
After another delicious lunch, we spent the afternoon making a context driven PYP planner following the inquiry cycle and shared to the wider group. Overall a very interesting day.

  2. I really enjoyed working with my colleagues to devise a plan as I hadn't done this before to this extent, usually the Team leaders have the most input and then we jig it very slightly, it has cemented for me the how and why. Hearing others also gave more ideas and thought provocation so thanks everyone.

  3. Things began to fit together a little more today. The reading confirmed my ideas regarding teacher and student relationships. Really enjoyed the tour through the school and to see how PYP is inbedded.
    Lovely school environment :)

  4. Today was great. I really enjoyed the opportunity to walk through the classrooms and see how the PYP is happening at a range of year levels. Completing the bubble planner this afternoon was really helpful, as I now feel I have a much clearer grasp on how it all works, especially of how boxes 3 and 4 are interlinked.

  6. I really enjoyed today. I had a opportunity to read through the 'Making the PYP happen' manual and label the areas for easy access, when planning for an inquiry. I also found the walk around the school very valuable. I took a lot of photos to help me understand how to display inquiries and to make it more IB friendly. The afternoon session was very beneficial because I am starting to understand how to complete an inquiry plan.

  7. To follow up on the reference to the SAMR model for technology integration, this link offers more detailed information from TKI. This link also from Emerging Edtech provides some examples (note: not fully reviewed so be discerning).

  8. Really enjoyed walking through classrooms today to see PYP in action on the walls. Really appreciated the time given to do some professional reading and to discuss this with others.

  9. This morning's session was really useful. It was great to spend some time focused on professional readings and discussing these. They helped connect to the 'why' and rationale underpinning PYP. The walk around was interesting, but could have been made shorter to optimise time in the workshop. It was useful being able to plan the afternoon session within school teams as it allowed us to use the PYP Planner within a context that was relevant to us.

  10. The Richart and Perkins reading from this morning was interesting, and gave some good ideas for activities to prepare for inquiry e.g. compass activity.
I found the walk-through of Kristin School useful; it was interesting to see how other teachers had set up displays for their UoIs, and arranged their classrooms for learning. This is my first year not only with the IB programme, but my first year teaching so I would have liked to see some of the students' work from exhibition.

  12. I like the part where we got to practise planning PYP using the template. It helped me better understand how to use IB concepts and terms when planning.

  13. I enjoyed many parts of todays course. The walk around Kristin School was beneficial and I saw many valuable lessons that I can implement into my teaching. Planning collaboratively helped me see the PYP elements in action. Referring back to the 'Making the PYP happen' document helped fill in gaps in my knowledge. Things are starting to come together nicely.

  14. Enjoyed today's workshop. Taking a tour of the school was great for PYP ideas and class displays. Hearing the feedback and sharing by everyone was helpful and encouraging.

  15. "Making learning visible" reading from this morning was very interesting. It was a good exercise to unpack the reading and discuss within the group. The session after lunch about Inquiry planning was very useful. We had great discussions and inputs from the team.

  16. Enjoyed the Boyer reading, thought provoking and interesting article. The walk around was a good way to see what kind of level should be available to see in the classrooms. Found the planning session a bit unnecessary unless with others from the same school in order to get a better context. Also, would be a great idea for us all to share one of our plans we have used so that we have a bank of different themes, etc to more efficiently plan at this early stage of understanding IB and the process involved.

  17. Today I learnt that collaboration could be influenced by school environment as well as culture. I wondered then if we are not collaborating with our peer staff at our school, was there a platform to collaborate digitally? This question was then answered through observation in our tour of the Kristin Campus and how this learning was implemented in another environment. The afternoon session gave a better understanding that collaboration within one's school allows for better collaboration, as the concerns - or contexts - make the collaboration meaningful. However, building networks with others on the course has been enlightening. We are not alone in the journey, and therefore, should collaborate - both locally and globally. This is an "aha" moment for me. Really fabulous!

  18. Enjoyed the faster pace, reading new readings and discussing in our table group the reading that you read. Was great seeing in class environments and resources and practicing planning a unit.

  19. I found the readings, discussion, and subsequent jigsaw activity the first session this morning. Use of the planner this afternoon was interesting - I felt it connected to our own teacher inquiries and could almost replace our spiral...

The walk around the school was inspiring and I look forward to implementing some ideas that I saw into my own classroom.

  20. I loved walking through the amazing school and seeing what they have been up. However, I feel that this would have been better in the afternoon when our brains are tired and over it. While I am enjoying the PYP activities I feel that too much time is allocated on the 'discussion' time and always find myself asking why is this course 3 days and why we need so many breaks?

  21. It was a great mix of activities today. Reading and exploring some thoughts with others around "What is an IB education" helped me to gain a deeper understanding about what the IB is all about. As a first year teacher I am still wrapping my head around a lot of new knowledge but I am very grateful to now have an understanding of the underpinning of the IB. Looking at the planner today was also helpful for me to see how central ideas, can be related to many of the trans-disciplinary themes. It was very interesting to see how different people took the central idea we were given and connected it to the different themes. I enjoyed having a walk around the campus here and I will take some ideas home to my own classroom. I still wonder how I can create authentic inquiry sessions related to the chosen theme without being teacher driven with where we take it? Thank you for a great day two.

  22. It was really great walking around the classrooms. I liked how we used the bubble planner to look into teaching inquiry, this would be a great model to use to create your own teaching spiral of inquiry. It would be great to be able to spend time working with teachers in our year group.
